Our Guide to Barcelona
With its warm weather, excellent food and world-class architecture, Barcelona might just be the best destination for a European city break.
To Do: Gaudi
You can't visit Barcelona and not see at least one of Gaudi's masterpieces. Beat the queues by booking your tickets online. Here are our top picks:
La Sagrada Familia
Despite still being a work in progress, Gaudi's cathedral is quite simply one of the most majestic places on earth. Endowed with thousands of symbols and an exceptionally beautiful use of light. Not to be missed if only to bask in its architectural splendour.
A modernist home lived in by the Batlló family, Casa Batlló is a stunning visual feast. With its renowned dragon roof, curved staircase and exquisite stained glassed windows and tiling, the house is one of the world's most unique buildings.
Parc Guell has so much more to offer than a selfie with a tiled salamander. Gaudi's tiled mosaics, colonnaded pathway and eccentric pavilions make it a park like any other. It also offers some stunning views over the city; where better to enjoy the Spanish sun?
To Do: Best of the Rest
The Picasso Museum
Exhibited in largely chronological order, The Picasso Museum walks you through Picasso's life and the development of his style. Despite not holding any blockbuster pieces, the museum does hold 4,521 of his other works and offers an unparalleled overview of his output.
Parc de la Ciutadella
With its glorious fountain, statues and lake, the Parc de la Ciutadella is a green oasis in the middle of the city. Take a picnic or hire a bike and explore.
Fundació Joan Miró
Accessible by cable car, The Fundació Joan Miró is located on the mountain of Montjuïc and offers unique views over the city. The museum itself offers an extensive collection of his work, both early and late, in paintings, sculpture, and tapestry.
To Eat: Spoonik
Located in a chef's open plan home which houses a professional kitchen, eating at Spoonik is a wonderfully unique experience. With a drinks reception in the garden, the exquisite 8 course tasting menu is eaten whilst sitting amidst the other guests: we were sat next to another fashion designer, a graphic designer and a leather supplier. The experience feels as if you had invited a team of professional chefs to prepare a meal in a friend's home.
To Stay: Hotel Primero Primera
Located 10 minutes from the city centre by tube, Hotel Primero Primera offers far more than any other price-comparable centrally located hotels. Boasting elegant design throughout, an honesty bar and a charming garden and pool, it is a beautiful oasis to escape to after a busy day in the city.
